It's a Big Deal

There are two big deals that happened this month. I'll do it chronologically...

THE CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!

All caps are totally called for here! The 2016 Cubs accomplished something that hasn't happened in. 108. years. Whaaat. It's amazing. So surreal though. I'm so glad I got to be a part of it. I followed the games, though I didn't watch a whole lot during the regular season.

And I went to one of their games, which was awesome, even though they lost. I hadn't been to a MLB game in several years, and I didn't realize how much I loved being at the ballpark. I just had this overwhelming "ahhh"-angelic-chorus feeling walking up through the stadium to our seats...and the breeze and the cheers and... I didn't know that I had such a deep longing in me to be at the ballpark.

Plus, I had my Cubs sweater that I bought yarn for back in March, and I was keeping track of wins/losses since they started the regular season. I started it in August and worked on it through September and October. I still have several inches left. But I'm so pumped that I knit a sweater with the win/loss record of the 2016 Cubs!! I mean, I put a pretty big chunk of cash down for the yarn so it's only fair, right? It probably added to the reason they won. You're welcome, guys.

Also, my good-luck Wrigley shawl. I've been planning on making a shawl from a pattern named Bricks for a while now. I was going to use some dark green yarn from my stash. As I started to think of what I was going to name it (I name all my projects becuase of Ravelry), I thought about ivy. Which made me think of the ivy at Wrigley Field. And with the pattern being Bricks, it was perfect! I named it Wrigley and worked on it during Game 5, 6, and 7. And they won all three. Boom.

But as for how it felt...there aren't really words. I thought I would cry...whenever I thought about them actually winning it all I could feel all the emotion building up inside me. But I didn't cry that night. The next morning however, when I saw all the posts and the videos and the newspaper covers, I cried. It was beautiful.

As for the second big deal...my first presidential election. For the past few months I've been lamenting the fact that this was my first time voting for a president and I greatly disliked both candidates. (I'm trying to be nice here.) But I knew in the end I would vote, whether I was excited or not, because it's my duty as a citizen of this country. As the weeks drew near, I realized that I had the privilege of voting in the first 100 years that women have had the right to vote in this country.

I'm not a feminist. I highly, highly doubt that if I had been around back when women were fighting for that right that I would have joined them. Being the goody-two-shoes that I am, I would have probably been judging them all hard-core. Just being honest here. But I'm able to vote because of them, and I think it's only fair that I'm thankful for the sacrifices they made so that I could have this active role in our great republic.

When I walked out of the polling place, I felt pretty awesome. I may not have been happy about who was running, but I was pretty dang happy about being a part of it all.

I don't want to be super political here (though it's my blog, I can say what I want :) ), but I will say this. I'm relieved that Hillary Clinton didn't win. I disagreed with so many of her views. But I wouldn't say I'm relieved Donald Trump won. It saddens me to hear of people who are terrified for their future because he won. Since he will be our president, I want to believe the best about him until he has proven me wrong with his actions and not only his words, which have often been disturbing, to say the least. I hope and I pray that he will lead our country well. But I know that God is in control and my trust is in him. It's the only way I (or anyone, really) can have peace through all this.

To end, thank you to all who reached the end of this long post. It may not be any longer then my usual posts, but it sure feels like it. Probably because I typed it all out on my phone... (Just checked and, whoa, it's a lot longer. Perhaps I should have made two...) And brownie points if you came from Facebook and don't usually read my blog. :)
