Under the Wire

I thought I'd get one more post in before September ends and October begins. Can you believe we only have three months left of 2014? Yikes! Every year flies by faster than the one before.

I had one thing (besides school :) that I wanted to get done in September; to release my shawl pattern Caerulea, and it has been accomplished! I haven't sold any yet, but I am super glad to have it published-I've been working on it (on and off) since July. (Plus, I had to knit the whole thing twice to get it right). Besides, it has good company in the no-sales category, no one's bought my Strawberry Patch Handwarmers either. Of course, if I look on the bright side, every other one of my patterns has sold at least twice (on average 6 times)!

I had a busy weekend.

Friday, we went to the Log Home Festival, and Nick and Lydia came. I didn't get to bed until a little before one. The next day, the girls were at a baby shower for Aunt Ramona. When that was done, Katherine and I spent the night at Sharyssa's house. We signed on Sunday, and after all that, I was really tired. So I didn't go to the Corn Fest parade. Instead, Grandma B and I got free coffee at McDonald's and watched The Help together. That was fun!

Outfit of the Day

I thought it would be fun to do another one of these. This was an outfit I actually planned out beforehand (down to the hairstyle!), though originally, I was going to wear my seafoam skinny jeans instead of the skirt.
But I don't think it would've worked with the scarf.

It wasn't much of a photo shoot because it was raining, but here are a few pictures:

Remember

September 11, 2001
I don't remember much about that day; I was only four. But I do remember sitting in front of the TV in my living room. Watching the planes crash into the the towers. The fire. The smoke. Of course, I didn't really understand what was going on back then. I just knew it was bad.

Another time is more clear in my memory. In 2011, when everyone was covering the attacks for the 10th anniversary, I learned of the heroism of the passengers on Flight 93 for the first time. It sent shivers down my spine! It made me feel such pride in my country and my countrymen. Even on that terrible day, there were heroes. And not just those passengers, but all the emergency responders, who walked into the burning buildings and never came back.

We will remember.

How's it going?

Tonight we watched Muppets Most Wanted, which was pretty funny. But what can I say, I love the Muppets!

School's going pretty well. I'm doing radicals in Geometry, learning about tornadoes and hurricanes in Physical Science, and visiting the Phaiakians along with Odysseus (The Odyssey). Plus, I had my first piano lesson today-well, first of this year. I've probably had a hundred piano lessons.

I've been reading a lot. Lots of different stuff. The Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale, who wrote the wonderful Princess Academy, that I read for the first time this summer. 39 clues. And I just got Allegiant from the library today. It's the third (and final) book in the Divergent series. Good stuff. Besides that, I'm working on a shawl pattern. I got quite a bit done during the movie.

I have to admit, part of me wrote this post just to see my chevron background again. Not that I couldn't just pull up my blog and stare at it without blogging...

It's A Good Day

I haven't been blogging much recently, so I suppose it's okay if I post more than once today.

This is why today is a good day:

• We started school. That's a good thing, even if you sometimes don't like it. All I've done so far is Geometry. Oh, and decided that I'm going to write about female Civil War spies for my research paper.
• We went to the library. I have 10+ books to read now. Of course, I didn't check out all of those. I'm not allowed to get that many...but I like reading other people's books too.
• I went to Le Mouton Rouge Knittery and bought a knitting magazine with this awesome cardigan in it. (I love the color, and, guys, there's chevrons. On the pockets. Sleeves. Collar. Awesome!) 
• Then I drove to Dunkin' Donuts (I drove to the library too), and got a blueberry flavored coffee. I can't have sugar, so iced coffee with cream and non-sweetened flavorings are my special treat.
• I got in a half an hour of driving. That's good for one day.

I have books, a knitting magazine, and coffee. Can it get any better?

Pretty New Blog!

OK, so it's not a new blog (It's turning 5 next May. Crazy isn't it?), but it is a new-looking blog. How do you like it? I hadn't changed it since March, plus, I knew I needed a fall background. It's not explicitly fall, but I chose red and green and dark purple fonts, because I thought they were more autumn-ish. I thought about using orange, but I didn't want it to look like Halloween with the green and purple and black. So I stuck with dark red. Think of apples, trees, barns. Yep, they're fall-ish.

And it's chevrons, people!!!!!!!! 

You know how I LOVE chevrons. And if you didn't...now you do.

I'm excited for autumn; I usually am. It's my favorite time of year, with deliciously cool weather and beautiful scenery. Plus, all sorts of fun events happen in the fall. One of them is school. Which, for me-this year, is not a fun event. This is the first time in (forever, maybe) years that I haven't been excited to start school, at least a little. Which is kind of crazy, considering that this might be my last year of school (for forever :).

We start school tomorrow; I'll let you know if I begin to like it better or not. I'm finishing Geometry, The Odyssey(for Ancient History), and Physical Science (with Katherine), probably doing Stewardship (a math course), and writing a research paper. I think I'm doing Spanish as well, and I might read War and Peace for English.
