On the subject of packages, I might be getting one tomorrow. And I am doubly happy because it contains one of my favorite things: Yarn!!!!! I have recieved a lot of packages lately. I probably won't get more for a while. :(

What favorite thing would you like to find in a package addressed to yourself?

A Doll Named Julie

The Doll Named Julie

Julia & Julie

"Oh My!"
Once upon a time in August of 2010 (it would sound so much better if it were "of o' nine" but alas)...

...a girl named Rebekah knitted a doll...

...she named it Julie...

...no, not Julia, like her sister, but Julie...

...and not until March 4, 2011 did she know...

...why she had named her that.

On Friday, Mom, Josiah, Katherine, and I went to a party for our friend, Mrs. Hawley's, hats she had made. (To see some of them, click here) I brought some of the dolls I have knitted and crocheted.

There was a lady there who was very interested in my knitting and, of course, Josiah's spinning. (I am going to call her GG because she said we could call her that, and it's not very polite to say 'the lady', besides, it doesn't sound very good either.) She really loved Julie; she said Julie reminded her of her granddaughter. After a while, GG said she needed a doll, and so she bought Julie. End of story, right? No.

So I gave her Julie, and she asked, "Does she have a name?" And I said, "Her name is Julie. But you can change it," I added.
"No," she said. (I can not vouch for the authenticity of all of this, I didn't write it down, I just remembered.) GG told me that her sister had had a girl (therefore, GG's neice, I am guessing), that was named Julie, who had long brown hair like the doll Julie, and when Julie (the girl) was three, she had cancer. It was back when doctors were just trying out cancer treatments, and they tried the treatments on Julie. But when Julie was 5 1/2, she died. GG told me that her granddaughter, who she was buying Julie for had Julie's middle name, Marie. And her granddaughter had a stuffed lamb, that was named Julie, and now she would have a doll named Julie.

And the whole while, she was telling me this, I knew why I had named her Julie. When I had made Julie, and I told Mom, she said, "Julie, not Julia?" And several times, I asked myself that. Why did I name her something so close to my little sister's name, yet that wasn't her name? And now I know and am so happy that a doll that I knitted is helping someone else remember one who is no longer with them. What better reason for me to do what I am doing?

I would start this post with I don't have much to write, but that is kind of getting old, don't you think?

I bought a book and some yarn from Knit Picks last night so I am itching for it to come.

The book I bought. I have borrowed it soooo many times from the library, it's not even funny.
And this is the yarn I bought. To make socks. For me.
